PRODUCTION: Slovenia`s Victory Receives TV Premiere

    Victory, a TV film shot in black and white by Slovenian director and screenwriter Miran Zupanič, premiered on RTV Slovenija on 9 November, following its theatrical debut at the 14th Slovenian Film Festival. It was completed in 27 shooting days at the beginning of the year 2011.

    The film was produced by Mateja Smisel of RTV Slovenija (www.rtvslo.si) with a budget of €630,000 The central character is acclaimed Slovenian actor Vlado Novak, who was also the star of the 2007 Slovenian box office hit Rooster's Breakfast. The cast includes Branko Jordan, Zvezdana Mlakar, Tina Vrbnjak, Mojca Funkl, Primož Pirnat, Jurij Drevenšek and Iva Krajnc.

    Zupanič's television films Operation Cartier (1991) and Radio.doc (1995) received several international awards. His documentary Children from Petricek Hill (2007) received the best film award at Festival of Slovenian Film in Portotož, the Erasmus EuroMedia Award 2008 and the Prešeren Foundation Award 2009.

    The central character in Victory is Rado Bigec, a worker who loses his job when the factory where he works is closed. Humiliated and outraged, he decides to abduct the manager of the plant and tries to prevent its closing by threatening his life. Because Rado, "a rebel with a cause," is armed with a bomb, tragic outcome seems imminent, but the situation takes a comic turn.
