Aleš Pavlin, born in 1970, obtained a degree at University of Economics in Ljubljana in 1994, and a PhD at the University of Drama Arts in Belgrade in 2011. He got his first experience in advertising business in early 90's, while also working as a TV Journalist on commercial TV station Kanal A (www.cetv-net.com).
From 1999-2002 he was the Director of Theatrical Distribution and Marketing at Karantanija Cinemas (www.karantanijacinemas.si) and was also involved in preparing the Slovenian National Film Legislation. From 2002 to 2004 he was Executive Director of the Golden Drum-International Advertising Festival in Portorož. In 2004 he was Managing Director of Festival of Slovenian Films. From 2004 to March 2006 he was a Member of the Board of Kolosej (www.kolosej.si), the biggest Slovenian cinema exhibitor. He has been associate partner in Production house PERFO since 2006 and is a professor at the Institute and Academy of Media in Ljubljana and at the national Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television.
Pavlin's production credits include the short film E Pigs (2009), the medium length film Smile from 2010 and the feature film A Trip (2011), a hit at the Slovenian box office. He is currently producing the television series In Treatment, broadcasted by the commercial television POP TV (www.cetv-net.com). His future projects include the feature film Dual, a coproduction with the Danish production company Beofilm (their film Teddy Bear received the World Cinema Directing Award at this year`s Sundance festival), the documentary Children of Socialism -30 Years Later and the feature film Rizling Polka, currently in development. Looking toward the future, Pavlin says he is especially looking forward to engaging in coproductions with Germany, France and the Scandinavian countries.
