{mosimage}The Golden Boll for Best Director was given ex-aequo to the debutants Selim Demirdelen for "Crossroads" and Levent Semerci for "Breath". Young filmmakers and actors were crowned in almost in every category. Even Theo Angelopoulos dedicated his Life Time Honourary Award to the young Turkish cinema at the closing ceremony.

This light shone also over the short and documentary filmmakers. 148 of the 211 films screened at the festival were shorts and documentaries made by young directors and students from Turkey and Mediterranean countries. The creativity, skill, passion and the socially engaged attitude of the young generation was praised by all the jury members, film critics and participants of the festival.

The retrospective side of the festival competed with its prospective side. The highlights of the program consisted of the first selection among the FIPRESCI award winners, "Critics don't miss it" and "Palestine: Longing for peace" . The tributes were made to the Greek master Theo Angelopoulos, to Reha Erdem, the prominent young Turkish director whose latest film "Kozmos" was screened in Panorama / Berlinale this year and to Mujde Ar, the iconic actress who changed the traditional passive female figure in Yesilcam into real female characters who freely express sexuality.

Golden Boll by the numbers

Admittance to films is free in Adana, therefore the number of admissions is not counted, but the festival was well attended, and included 672 guests.

211 films were screened in six days at five theatres. 148 of them were shorts and documentaries, 63 of them were features. There were 101 Turkish productions and 110 international productions.

14 events held during the festival included a panel discussion of five Palestinian filmmakers focusing on their unique experiences and a Q&A with Angelopoulos.

2 exhibitons, a workshop and a colloquy were among other events. 3 books about the Life Time Honourary Award were published.
