The International Jury: Martin Blaney (Screen International), Azize Tan (Istanbul IFF) and Blagoja Kunovski (Manaki Brothers IFF) judging eight films produced / co-produced in Slovakia and distributed in theatres in 2012,
decided to give the main award for THE BEST SLOVAK FILM to:
which impressed them ".. by its adept blending of documentary and fiction and sensitive handling of non-professional actors. The talented young director gives a fresh and personal view of an eternal social problem that has universal relevance. We believe that Iveta Grófová, the director of the winning film Made in Ash, is a name to watch."
FEDEORA European Film Critic Juryawarded the co-production title of the Czech director David Ondříček In the Shadow.
In addition, Film Europe- Media Company traditionally awards Slovak personalities, who represent their country internationally. The Film Europe Award at the Bratislava IFF 2012 went to the young actress Gabriela Marcinková (360 by Fernando Mereilles, 2011, Byzantium by Neil Jordan, 2012, Move On by Asger Leth, 2012 – to be released soon, with Gabriela as the female lead opposite Mads Mikkelsen, She also appeared in the new Neil Jordan film Byzantium.
