Film Europe Media Company to bring winner of the Golden Palm at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival to Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Bratislava/Cannes 27-5-2013 – The main prize at the 66th Cannes festival, the Golden Palm, has been won by the favorite of the festival, La Vie d’Adele (English title: Blue is the Warmest Colour). This film about a love story between two young women was made by Tunisian-French director Abdellatif Kechiche with the main roles played by young actresses Adele Exarchopoulos and Léa Seydoux.
This winning film, La Vie d’Adele, is one of the most emotional, open and courageous films ever to receive an award in Cannes. At first glance, it seems to be the counterpart of the film Intimacy by Patrice Chéreau, which won years ago at the Berlinale. But such a comparison would only be about the courage to show intimacy in a film. This film naturally follows in the footsteps of other Cannes winners. Last year’s Amour by Haneke dealt with old age while Malick’s Tree of Life addressed, among other things, marriage.
“La Vie d’Adele is about intimacy, and the dynamics and tragedy of relationships. The incredible acting, direction and camera leave no one in doubt that this film deserved the Golden Palm. For Film Europe, La Vie d’Adele is another great film, the winner of a top festival, which we found before it won the main prize and before festivals discovered it. We have this year’s winner of the Lux Prize, the Berlinale and now the winner of Cannes. We are helping high quality Czech and Slovak cinemas, film clubs and film festivals. Our mission is to place European films at all levels of distribution. The display case of our efforts is the Film Europe Channel – a television channel that carries the best European films. The newest winner at Cannes is one of them,” said the president of Film Europe Ivan Hronec after the results were announced.
The official announcement of the winners has already taken place in its traditionally celebratory fashion with numerous international filmmakers. This year, the jury was chaired by the American director Steven Spielberg and members included: actress Nicole Kidman, actor Christoph Waltz and Romanian director Cristian Mungiu. The gala dinner was moderated by Audrey Tatou and included many important guests: French Minister of Culture
Aurélie Filippetti and Mayor of Paris Bertrand Delanoe, as well as legendary actors Alain Delon and Kim Novak. Ivan Hronec a Silvia Hroncová represented the Film Europe Media Company at the Golden Palm award ceremony.
Film Europe will bring the winning film from Cannes to cinemas in Slovakia and the Czech Republic this year.
