Film and Media Education in Poland and the world – systemic solutions and case studies

    International conference – Warsaw, 6-7May, 2015

    As part of the Audiovisual and Media Education Programme (PEAM) – carried out as an initiative of the University of Warsaw since 2012 – we are searching for the best formula for film and media education in Poland. It is particularly important during a period of rapid transformations in public life in which it has become impossible to participate without the ability to critically analyse the media.

    In Poland, although plenty of well-functioning grass-roots initiatives exist, no solutions have yet been implemented to treat the phenomenon systemically. For that reason we want to explore the achievements and experiences of other countries in this field by organising a conference.

    Entitled “Film and Media Education in Poland and the world – systemic solutions and case studies”, it will be taking place in Warsaw on 6-7 May 2015.

    The conference will gather together practitioners of film and media education from at least 10 countries. The organisers ambition is to invite the creators (or representatives) of spectacular, acclaimed, stable projects which are well-known at least in their country of origin and are focussed on development.

    The planned outcomes of the conference are as follows:

    1. the online publication of the talks and discussions;
    2. the publication of an article summarising the conference discussions;
    3. the publication of an article describing the potential for exploiting the systemic solutions presented at a wider than regional level;
    4. the publication of an article describing the potential for exploiting the systemic solutions presented in Poland.

    The requirements for the talks are as follows:

    - speakers should introduce themselves as regards: education, place of work and position of responsibility, length of involvement in film and/or media, most important achievements in film and/or media;

    - presentation of the initiative or project: name, location, goals, programme and range of application, time-frame, budget and financial structure, methods of raising funding, most important achievements and their reception;

    - a description of the systemic solutions – i.e. at state governmental level – applied in the given country (and also the region, city or town, or other location) which support the project. We would ask for a description of any systemic solutions impeding the project and the measures being taken to change the situation;

    - a description of the local (international or regional) collaboration with other institutions of similar character and common characteristics;

    - a description of collaboration with sponsors, marketing and PR strategies used, and approaches to building an audience;

    - a description of the current situation of the project, a description of the project’s development strategy, short-term and long-term aims.

    The conference will take place in English. Participation is possible in the following forms:

    - speaker;

    - participant in the discussions;

    - observer;

    - supporting institution/sponsor.

    It is possible to request the refunding of partial or total costs of participation in the conference.

    Applications should be made using the online application form http://www.come.uw.edu.pl/peam/form.php?lang=enaccording to the deadlines stated there. The conference programme and organisational information will be available from 31 March 2015.
