The Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA) has revealed the nominations for the 22nd Czech Lion Annual Awards. This year the academics had 55 feature films and documentary features released in 2014 to choose from. The films aspiring to get the Czech Lion statuette in the category of the best film are The Way Out, Nowhere in Moravia, Fair Play, To See the Sea and The Three Brothers. The awards will be presented in Dvořák’s Hall of Rudolfinum in Prague on Saturday 21st February 2015. Just as last year the CFTA wants the evening to be ceremonial. The host of the evening will be Lucie Výborná. The audience can expect a new set and a special music performance by foreign artists. The ceremony of the 22nd Czech Lion Awards will be broadcast live on CT1 channel at 8 p.m.

The members of CFTA had been deciding about the nominations for the 22nd Czech Lion Annual Awards by 9th January 2015, mainly by electronic vote. The 123 academics, who took part in the voting, were choosing from 32 feature films and 23 documentary features. As far as the number of nominations is regarded, the winner is the film Fair Play by Andrea Sedláčková with 15 nominations, the film Nowhere in Moravia by Miroslav Krobot comes second with its 13 nominations. At the third place of the imaginary top list there are two films with 10 nominations – The Way Out by Petr Václav and The Three Brothers by Jan Svěrák. Then there are three films with four nominations − Angels directed by Alice Nellis, Hostage directed by Juraj Nvota and Storyteller by Vladimír Michálek.

In the category of the best film the following five films have been nominated: The Way Out, Nowhere in Moravia, Fair Play, To See the Sea and The Three Brothers. The Czech Lion for the best documentary feature will be awarded to one of the following films – Into the Clouds We Gaze (directed by Martin Dušek), The Magic Voice of a Rebel (Olga Sommerová), Olga (Miroslav Janek), The Old Man And The World (Petr Horký) and Life by Václav Havel (Andrea Sedláčková).

At the CFTA press conference, apart from the revelation of the nominations, the winner of the non-statutory award for the best film poster was announced. The award was presented to Tomáš Machek and Marius Corradini from the Side2 studio, the designers of the poster for the film Fair Play.

The Czech Lion for the best actress in a leading role can be obtained by the following actresses - Klára Melíšková for the film Angels, Klaudia Dudová for the film The Way Out, Tatiana Vilhelmová for her role in the film Nowhere in Moravia, Judit Bárdos for the film Fair Play and Tatiana Pauhofová for the film Tender Waves. The winner in the category of the best actor in a supporting role can be Jaroslav Plesl for his role in the film Nowhere in Moravia, Igor Bareš for the film Fair Play, Ondřej Vetchý for the film Hostage, Karel Roden for his role in Krasno and Matěj Hádek for the role in Storyteller.

This year CFTA has prepared several changes in the presentation of the awards. The first is the name of the host. This year the gala evening will be hosted by Lucie Výborná, a radio and TV presenter and journalist. Another piece of news is the set of the stage that was created for the Czech Lion by the stage designer Jaroslav Svoboda. In the course of the ceremonial evening the audience can look forward to an original presentation of classical music by foreign artists. The gala evening will be directed by Michael Čech and the graphic design was prepared just like last year by the Oficina studio. The music composed by Jan Čechtický for the ceremony has been recorded by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.
