dok.incubator is open to teams of three - editor, director and producer - to participate in a seven-month long program which is organized partly as a residential event and partly online. Every year, international tutors select four Czech and four Slovak projects which get an opportunity to gain a new perspective on their film and to maximize its international potential.
Where do the films go?
The results and festival journeys of films which took part in Czech and Slovak workshops show that this approach works. The Czech documentary Kapr Code by Lucie Králová won the main documentary award at Ji.hlava IDFF 2022, the award for the best music documentary at Krakow Film Festival and was also selected for Munich International Documentary Film Festival and MakeDox. Another film from the Czech program Adam Ondra: Pushing the Limits by Petr Záruba and Jan Šimánek premiered at Visions du Réel and continued to Trento Film Festival, DocFest Sheffield and many more festivals.
Among the successful Slovak projects there is The Cathedral by Denis Dobrovoda which was awarded the best documentary film at Krakow Film Festival and was qualified for the Academy Awards. In 2021 Fragile Memory by Igor Ivanko was selected for the workshop, the film premiered a year later at Krakow Film Festival. After that the documentary was screened at IDFA, Docfest Sheffield or Sarajevo Film Festival.
