Acclaimed filmmakers are heading to Bratislava in March

    The 12th edition of the Visegrad Film Forum will unveil the behind-the-scenes world of cinema in Bratislava from March 19–22. Among the event's highlights is a special appearance by acclaimed editor Jay Rabinowitz, renowned for his work on 8 Mile, Requiem for a Dream, and The Tree of Life, who has collaborated with well known directors like Jim Jarmusch and Darren Aronofsky.

    This year, attendees can look forward to four immersive days of masterclasses led by acclaimed filmmakers, hands-on learning opportunities, case studies and engaging discussions. The program for the 12th edition of Visegrad Film Forum features renowned American editor Jay Rabinowitz, celebrated for his groundbreaking work on Requiem for a Dream (2000), which Ada Solomon, source: VFFearned a spot among the best-edited films of all time, ranking 29th on the Phoenix Film Critics Society and Online Film Critics Society lists. Joining him are Juliette Welfling, established editor in the realm of independent cinema, and Ada Solomon, an acclaimed Romanian producer recognized by The Hollywood Reporter as one of the 40 most influential women in the film industry.

    Jay Rabinowitz began his career working with Jim Jarmusch, starting as an intern on Stranger Than Paradise (1986) before serving as an assistant editor on Mystery Train (1989). He later became the lead editor on films such as Night on Earth (1991), Dead Man (1995), and Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999). Rabinowitz’s collaboration with Darren Aronofsky on Requiem for a Dream (2000) earned widespread critical acclaim, including awards for Best Editing from the Phoenix Film Critics Society and the Online Film Critics Society. In a 2012 survey, the Motion Picture Editors Guild ranked Requiem for a Dream as the 29th best-edited film of all time, while his work on Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life (2011) was ranked 65th on the same list.

    Ada Solomon is a renowned Romanian film producer and the founder of HiFilm Productions and Micro Film. Her films have garnered over 150 international awards. She has produced and co-produced more than 80 titles, including acclaimed works by director Radu Jude, such as Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (2021), Aferim! (2015), and I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians (2018), as well as Child's Pose (2013) by Călin Peter Netzer that won various awards including the Golden Bear at the Berlinale. Solomon has also contributed to significant international productions, including Toni Erdmann (2016) which enjoyed remarkable success on the festival circuit.

    Juliette Welfling is best known for her long-standing collaboration with acclaimed French director Jacques Audiard. Her remarkable talent for shaping film narratives is evident in critically acclaimed works such as A Prophet (2009), Rust and Bone (2012), and Dheepan (2015). Expanding beyond French cinema, she also contributed to the narrative intensity of The Hunger Games (2012). Throughout her career, Welfling has won five César Awards for Best Editing, solidifying her status as one of the most influential editors of her time. Her extraordinary skill was further recognized with an Academy Award nomination for her work on The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) by Julian Schnabel. Most recently, she was honoured with the Excellence Award in European Editing presented by the European Film Academy for her work on the 4-times Golden Globe winner Emilia Pérez (2023).

    The Visegrad Film Forum is organized by Boiler NGO, with the Film and Television Faculty of The Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, nutprodukce and Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague as a co-organizers. The event is partnered with the FEBIOFEST Bratislava International Film Festival.
