dok.incubator is open to teams of three – editor, director and producer – to participate in a seven-month long program which is organized partly as a residential event and partly online. Every year, international tutors select four Czech and four Slovak projects which get an opportunity to gain a new perspective on their film and to maximize its international potential. Documentaries with Czech or Slovak coproductions are also welcome to join the program.
Where do the films go?
The results and festival lives of the Czech and Slovak films that participated in the workshops show that the program works. The debut of director Marie-Magdalena Kochová, The Other One, has started its journey at Karlovy Vary IFF and then was screened at FIPADOC, Ji.hlava IDFF or Busan International Film Festival in South Korea. The film also won the MDR Award at last year's DOK Leipzig. Ondřej Vavrečka's Lichens Are The Way premiered at CPH:DOX, where it received a special mention from the jury, and went on to screen at Beldocs, FID Marseille or Ji.hlava IDFF. Roman Ďuriš's Fakir met the audience first at the Millennium Docs Against Gravity and DOK.fest in Munich, and then also at last year's Ji.hlava IDFF, where the film was awarded the Best Cinematography prize.
