The 11. edition of Polish Film Awards ‘Eagles' 2009 has begun with the votes by members of Polish Film Academy. 30 films are competing this year.
The competition is accompanied by the retrospective of candidate
films between 12th and 30th January.
Over 500 members of Polish Film Academy has sent their votes. Yet, this is just the first round. The names and titles of the nominees will be known soon. The first round of the voting for Eagles 2009 will be accompanied by the retrospective of candidate films to Polish Film Awards EAGLES 2009, which will be held between 12th and 30th January at the cinemas: Multikino Ursynów and Silver Screen Europlex.
The nominees will be announced on 11th February. The Award Presentation Ceremony will be held on 9th March and on 3rd March we will learn the name of the Life Achievements Award winner.
The candidates for Eagles 2009 are Polish feature films (and their makers), which during the year 2008 were screened at Polish cinemas for at least one week as commercial screenings.
Nominees and winners of Polish Film Awards ‘Eagles' are selected by members of Polish Film Academy. Voting happens in two stages, by post and it is secret till the announcement of the verdict. The voting is led and supervised by the world leading auditing and advisory company PricewaterhouseCoopers, which guarantees the credibility of the voting process.
The awards are presented for the biggest achievements in the following categories:
- The best film
- The best leading male part
- The best leading female part
- The best director
- The best screenplay
- Life Achievements
- The best supporting male part
- The best supporting female part
- The best cinematography
- The best set
- The best soundtrack
- The best costumes
- The best editing
- The best sound
- and the category introduced last year: Discovery of the year.
During the first stage of the voting the members of Polish Film Academy vote for winners of the following categories: Best film, Best leading male part, Best leading female part, Best supporting male part, Best supporting female part, Life Achievements, Best European film as well as the professional categories to which they were individually authorized.
Polish Film Awards ‘Eagles' have been awarded since 1999. The winners are selected by over 500 members of Polish Film Academy, an equivalent of national film academies awarding such prizes as French Cesars, Chech Lions or Spanish Goya, and in Europe - European Film Academy awarding European Film Awards.
Among the winners of Eagles for Best Film has been so far: "Historia kina w Popielawach" (1999), "Dług" (2000), "Życie jako śmiertelna choroba przenoszona drogą płciową" (2001), "Cześć Tereska" (2002), "Pianista" (2003) i "Zmruż oczy" (2004), "Wesele" (2005), "Komornik" (2006), "Plac Zbawiciela" (2007), "Katyń" (2008).
