To mark the occasion of the Czech films' inclusion in the festival, a press conference and presentation of Czech cuisine, led by prominent Czech chefs, will be held. The festival's inclusion of these two Czech movies, which is sponsored by the Czech Film Center and the Czech Center in Buenos Aires, symbolically follows up on the Czech film festival that took place in Argentina in March 2008 and was organized by the Czech Film Center.
The fifth year of the Argentine festival Pantalla Pinamar, which aims to present major European films in the context of domestic production in Argentina, will take place in the seaside resort of Pinamar from March 7-14. This year's program features a section called Cine Checo de Ultima Hora that will afford film professionals and festivalgoers an opportunity to see Night Owls and The Karamazovs.
The Czech Film Center and the Czech Center in Buenos Aires worked together to organize the section and include the Czech films in the festival, which marks the centers' second cooperative effort in Argentina. Last March, the two joined forces to present a festival of Czech films in Buenos Aires with great success. Latin American audiences' interest in Czech cinema is also confirmed by the Michaela Pavlátová retrospective at the last festival in Mar des Plata, The Karamazovs invitation to Uruguay and the presentation of the latter mentioned film and the documentary René at Buenos Aires' independent film festival, BAFICI, in April.
The Czech film screenings will take place on March 12 and 13. On Thursday, March 12, there will also be a press conference devoted to Czech cinema, followed by a unique presentation of Czech cuisine, giving invited guests from the ranks of festival professionals, city officials, the media and important businesses a chance to taste traditional Czech dishes. The gourmet specialties will be prepared by a team led by chef Vladimir Šalanský, who heads the Prague restaurants U zlaté hrušky, Klášterní vinárna and Hanava Pavilion. The event will be overseen by sommelier and food critic Milan Ballik. This is an exceptional culinary event providing local fans of international cuisine an opportunity to taste Czech specialties that are otherwise unavailable in Argentina. The culinary presentation is organized by the Czech Center in Buenos Aires.
