Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival is actually several festivals wrapped into one: features (Black Nights Main Programme), animations (Animated Dreams), short and student films (Sleepwalkers) and films for children and youth (Just Film). Three contemporary Czech features, one documentary and five short films will appear in various festival sections, while five more movies from the 1960s will be featured in a retrospective of the Czechoslovak New Wave.
Director Tomáš Mašín's 3 Seasons in Hell will be presented in the OFFICIAL COMPETITION EURASIA section. The latest effort from director Jana Švankmajer, Surviving Life, which premiered at the 67th IFF in Venice, will appear in the FORUM section. The 14 SELECTED TITLES section will feature director Jan Hřebejk's Kawasaki's Rose and the DOC@PÖFF section Helena Třeštíková's exceptional long-term observational documentary Katka.
At the student and short films festival, SLEEPWALKERS, audiences will be treated to the following Czech shorts: Nocturno - dir. Marek Berger; 100 Days - dir. Viera Čakanyová; Ctrl Emotions - dir. Vojtěch Kotek; Toaster - dir. Michaela Prokopová; and Expensive Father - dir. Jan Těšitel.
And last but not least, five Czech classics from the 60s have been chosen for a special program called NEW WAVE OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA: director Vojtěch Jasný's 1963 family comedy The Cassandra Cat, Jan Němec's 1964 war drama Diamonds of the Night, Věra Chytilová's avant-garde farce Daisies from 1966, Miloš Forman's unforgettable comedy from 1965 Loves of a Blonde and director Ivan Passer's little-known gem Intimate Lighting from 1965.
