The Polish film Four Nights with Anna, directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, will open the 8. ERA NEW HORIZONS International Film Festival, held in Wrocław between 17 th and 27 th July 2008.
The screening in Wrocław will be the Polish premiere of this film, presented this year at Cannes Film Festival as the opening film of Quinzaine des Réalisateures (Directors' Fortnight). This was the only Polish film in the official selection of the festival in Cannes.
Jerzy Skolimowski, director of such films as Identification Marks: None (Rysopis), Walkover (Walkower) and Hands Up! (Ręce do góry), returns after sixteen years of silence with a personal film, telling an intimate love story (starring Artur Steranko and Kinga Preis). The love shown by Skolimowski is pure and selfless and at the same time it is disturbingly dark and obsessive. Four Nights with Anna was received very well by the audience and world critics.
At this year's festival more than 200 feature-length films from 50 countries will be presented.
Among the most important sections of the festival there are: NEW HORIZONS International Competition, NEW POLISH FILMS Competition; reviews of New Zealand and Brazilian cinema; retrospectives of the Greek master Theo Angelopoulos, British artist Terence Davies and Polish director Andrzej Żuławski. Festival's program will also be also enriched by the screenings of silent films accompanied by live music, film music concerts, concerts at the festival club, performances and exhibitions. More than one hundred filmmakers from all over the world will come to Wrocław.
