DUBROVNIK: Croatia was added to the list of filming locations for the second season of Carnival Row, a Victorian fantasy produced by the Amazon Studios, starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne in the lead roles. The first season of the acclaimed show was filmed in the Czech Republic, with additional shooting in Germany and the USA.

RIGA: Estonian director Jaak Kilmi started principal photography on Latvian/Estonian coproduction Christmas in the Jungle / Ziemassvētki džungļos on 7 September 2019. The shooting for this children’s adventure film takes place in Indonesia and will last for almost two months.

TALLINN: Henrik Ruben Genz’s war drama Erna at War / Erna läheb sõtta, a coproduction between Denmark, Belgium and Estonia starring Trine Dyrholm, is currently shooting in Estonia. It’s the first time that a film project that big is filmed in Tartu, the second biggest town in Estonia and the European Capital of Culture 2024. The project is benefiting from Estonia’s cash rebate programme.

BUCHAREST: Romanian director Vali Hotea is currently shooting his sophomore feature Lebendsdorf aka I Hate Berlin in Romania and Germany. The film is a black comedy about indecision and the fear of taking responsibility, produced by Ada Solomon and Diana Păroiu through Romania’s HiFilm Productions.

LJUBLJANA: Miroslav Mandić is currently shooting his sixth feature Sanremo, a drama about aging. This Slovenian/Italian coproduction is being shot in Slovenia until 9 September 2019 and in Italy in October 2019.

NICOSIA: Paul Lambis is currently in casting with 74, a feature film based on his original theatrical production under the same name. The English-language drama about the Turkish invasion of Cyprus will be shot on location in Cyprus in 2020.

SOFIA: The Bulgarian company Jelfilm is currently in production with a TV series-melodrama Remission, set to premiere in November 2019 on the Armenian Public TV. The main subject of the series will serve for a 120 minute drama Metamorphosis. Both projects are directed by Hovhannes Galstyan and are Armenian/Bulgarian/German coproductions.

CONSTANȚA: Back 2 Back directed by Kader Ayd is currently shooting in Constanța, on the Black Sea coast. According to Romanian media, this action film is an original Netflix production. This the first film produced by founder of the Superkombat Fight Championship Eduard Irimia through Superfilm, a company he established together with Moshe Diamant and Christopher Milburn in 2018.

BRATISLAVA: The Slovak drama Who´s Next? / Kto je ďaľší, written, directed and produced by Miro Drobný, was shot in China, South Korea, Hong Kong, France, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The film was released domestically on 22 August 2019 in 86 cinemas, which is the new Slovak record after Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), that was released in Slovakia in 82 cinemas.
PRODUCTION: Lost Script Inspires Feature Film and Series Bad Blood
BELGRADE: Shooting on the feature film and TV series Bad Blood / Nečista krv based on the 1910 novel of famous classic Serbian writer Bora Stanković is scheduled to start in the summer of 2020. Both projects are produced by Serbia’s This and That Productions, which is currently looking for international coproducers, as Bad Blood will be one of the most expensive productions in the region.

WARSAW: Maciej Bochniak is currently shooting Magnesia. The feature film produced by Aurum Film will be a mix of a detective story, comedy and western. The music will be composed by Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, who won an Academy Award for Marc Foster’s Finding Neverland (2004).

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director Mariana Čengel Solčanská starts preproduction on the Slovak/Czech historical drama The Chambermaid / Slúžka. The film is based on Hana Lasicová’s bestseller published in 2013 about lesbian love story set in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century.
