PRAGUE: The Zookeeper´s Wife, a historical film produced by Universal Pictures through local Czech Anglo Productions wraps shooting on 26 November 2015. The story is based on the book by Diane Ackerman taking place during the WW2 in the Warsaw Zoo where the director and his wife are hiding Jewish citizens in abandoned buildings of the Zoo.
PRAGUE: HBO Europe started shooting an eight part series titled Pustina / Wasteland, a dramatic story of a village community on the verge of decline which is hit by a series of mysterious and shocking events. The scriptwriter is Štěpán Hulík the winner of Czech Lion for the best screenplay for the acclaimed series and film Burning Bush directed by Agnieszka Holland and also produced by HBO.
PRAGUE: An extremely popular Czech romantic comedy series Poets / Básníci with Pavel Kříž and David Matásek in the lead roles will, after 12 years, get a continuation. The series started back in the times of Czechoslovakia. The previous parts were made in the years 1982, 1984, 1987, 1993 and 2004.
PRAGUE: M-appeal, a Berlin based international sales company, have acquired the Czech/Slovak coproduction Home Care.
PRAGUE: Prague-trained and based Slovenian director Olmo Omerzu, winner of the 2012 Czech Critics “Discovery of the Year” award, screens his second feature Family Film in the main competition of the Cottbus Film Festival, which runs through 8 November 2015.
PRAGUE: Former Czechoslovak intelligence agent, foodblogger, refugees at the Macedonian border, revival bands, Generation Y, and children from educational institutions. These are just some of the protagonists of the forthcoming Czech Television documentaries which will be released in cinemas.
PRAGUE: The 5th part of the popular vampire saga Underworld started shooting in Prague on 6 October 2015. The film stars British actors Kate Beckinsale and Theo James.
PRAGUE: Dan Wlodarczyk’s feature film Green Horse Rustlers / Zloději zelených koní, based on a book under the same title by Jiří Hájíček, will soon wrap shooting. The release is planned for the fall of 2016.
PRAGUE: Chinese TV series The Last Visa directed by Hua Quing is currently shooting in the Czech city of Liberec which is standing in for Vienna. The series will contain eight two-hour parts made as independent feature films.
PRAGUE: Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA) selected Home Care by Slávek Horák to represent the Czech Republic in the Foreign Language category of the 88th Academy Awards.
