The film is a dramatic tale of Czech moldavite diggers, for whom illegal mining of these semi-precious stones has become an uncontrollable passion, as well as a way to resolve material problems. The story takes place in South Bohemia, where the film crew has been shooting since the end of August.
“South Africa has its diamonds and golddiggers, in South Bohemia we have moldavite and its illegal miners. Green Horse Rustlers is a tale with a strong regional and social accent. Its protagonists are country folk in rubber boots and overalls who have to work to the bone in order to provide for their families,” Dan Wlodarczyk said in a statement. He also refers to his film as an „eastern“.
The film is produced by Viktor Schwarcz through Cineart TV Prague in coproduction with the Czech TV. The budget is 773,000 EUR/ 21 m CZK. Marek Adamczyk, Pavel Liška, Jenovéfa Boková and Gabriela Míčová play the main parts.
