VALLETTA: Maltese/Canadian coproduction Carmen directed by Valerie Buhagiar has just wrapped shooting in Malta. Produced by Falkun Films and supported by the Malta Film Fund, the film is one of the very few Maltese-led coproductions.
VALLETTA: The Malta Film Commission will give 162,500 EUR in grants for the special production call of the Malta Film Fund, which closed in October 2016.

VALLETTA: Abigail Mallia’s Limestone Cowboy is set to follow in the footsteps of Rebecca Cremona’s Simshar (produced by Kukumajsa Productions Ltd) and be the next film from Malta to gain international theatrical distribution. Limestone Cowboy is a whimsical film on a political dark horse, who aims for the top job in a small Mediterranean island.
Malta saw a somewhat quieter year in 2016, albeit still managing to attract a few names and productions of note, and making significant steps towards the establishment of film as a medium of indigenous creative expression, artistic appreciation and academic inquiry.
VALLETTA: Maltese-Australian director Peter Sant, known for arthouse shorts, has finished shooting his debut feature, tentatively titled Maneland, with support from the Malta Film Fund.
VALLETTA: The Malta Film Commission plans to implement new legislation regulating the film industry within one year. The legislation particularly affects the film service industry.
VALLETTA: Austrian director Wolfgang Fischer has wrapped a 33 day shoot in Malta for his sophomore film Styx. A coproduction between Berlin’s Schiwago Film and Amour Fou in Vienna, with executive production by Small Island Films in Malta, Styx depicts the transformation of a strong woman on a solo sailing trip.
VALLETTA: Malta Film Commission has released the list of beneficiaries of Malta Film Fund's first call for 2016, which closed in June 2016. A total of 250,000 EUR was made available, with 230,914 allocated to projects in stages from writing to production.
VALLETTA: Malta has played host to two series in recent weeks, with the Wachowski’s high-profile Sense8 and the Smithsonian Channel-backed Warrior Women, serviced by Parker Film & TV Productions, both filming on the island.
