PRAGUE: The Czech Film Fund has distributed 789,000 EUR / 20 m CZK as minority coproduction grants for the production of four feature films, five long documentaries, two long animated films and one short animated film.
PRAGUE: Czech Republic’s Audiovisual Producers´ Association (APA) has requested the Minister of Culture, Martin Baxa, to include an increase in production incentives of at least 25% in the amendment to the Audiovisual Act.
PRAGUE: The Czech/Polish/German/French film Franz directed by Agnieszka Holland is currently filming in Prague, including the area of the Old Town near Franz Kafka’s birthplace. The production in Prague started at the beginning of April 2024 and it will continue until the end of May 2024, with additional filming planned in Germany.
PRAGUE: The Czech Film Fund has distributed 2,373,600 EUR / 60 m CZK for the production of eight feature films.
PRAGUE: Tomáš Mašín’s Brothers / Bratři won Best Feature Film at the 31st edition of the Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA) Awards, held in Prague’s Rudolfinum on 9 March 2024. This is the only award for the film, which lead the nominations with 15 nods.
PRAGUE: Domestic comedies ONEMANSHOW: The Movie and The Island / Ostrov finished the year 2023 in the third and ninth place respectively in the Czech charts.
PRAGUE: Tomáš Mašín’s cold war drama Brothers leads the Czech Lions 2023 nominations with 15 nods, followed by Matěj Chlupáček’s 1930’s drama We Have Never Been Modern with 12 nominations.
BOX OFFICE: Sequel to Juraj Jakubisko’s Legendary Perinbaba Tops Slovak Chart

Czech Republic 13-12-2023PRAGUE: The Czech director/animator Šimon Koudela is currently in postproduction with his fantastic epic Fichtelberg, which is a combination of animation and live action. This Czech/Slovak coproduction will be distributed by CinemArt in the Czech Republic with the premiere planned for the spring of 2025.
PRODUCTION: Sundance Winner Ondřej Hudeček Shoots Debut Feature Little Thief
Czech Republic 11-12-2023PRAGUE: The Czech director Ondřej Hudeček, who won the Special Jury Prize for Best Direction at the Sundance Film Festival for his short film Peacock / Furiant in 2016, is currently in production with his debut feature Little Thief / Poberta. This Czech/Slovak coproduction will premiere in the summer of 2025.
