FNE together with German Films is launching the Year of German Central European Films 2024 with a special focus on German films in central and eastern European countries plus Cyprus and Malta and our partner countries’ films screening in Germany.

This action takes place within the Frames of the celebrations of the 70 Years of German Films events and will include highlighting German Film Weeks in our partner countries and presenting the special programme of outstanding German films from seven decades that has been specially compiled for the anniversary with an introduction by Simone Baumann.

We will also be updating you on the latest German CEE coproductions in production with information from FNE correspondents FNE580

PODCASTS

FNE will also be presenting a special series of podcasts with speakers curated by German films on topics of importance to German and CEE filmmakers.

Poland Production Year of German Central European Films 2024

PRODUCTION: Agnieszka Holland Shoots Coproduction about Kafka

PRAGUE: The Czech/Polish/German/French film Franz directed by Agnieszka Holland is currently filming in Prague, including the area of the Old Town near Franz Kafka’s birthplace. The production in Prague started at the beginning of April 2024 and it will continue until the end of May 2024, with additional filming planned in Germany.

SOFIA: The acclaimed Bulgarian director Stephan Komandarev is currently in production with his seventh feature film Made in EU, which is a coproduction between Bulgaria, Germany and the Czech Republic.
