Official selection of "A l'Est du Nouveau": Over thirty screenings of new cinematographic trends in preview showings!
The Jury, composed of the director and scriptwriter Stan Neumann, the journalist and film critic Pamela Pianezza, and of the arthouse cinema manager Jean Marc Delacruz, will evaluate eight exclusive films in previews in Rouen and its area, eight films awarded in festivals all around the world thanks to their original artistic approach. This selection proposes many different genres, from comedy, drama, or documentary to animation, with particular attention to countries that have not yet been exposed during the festival such as Croatia with the film The Priest's Children by Vinko Bresan, or Armenia with I'm Going to Change my Name by Maria Saakyan, which received the Best Film award at the Golden Apricot festival in Erevan.
Other selected films are: Circles by Srdan Golubovic (Serbia), Floating Skyscrapers by Tomasz Wasilewski (Poland), A nagy füzet by János Szasz (Hungary), Sofia's Last Ambulance by Ilian Metev (Bulgaria), When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism by Corneliu Porumboiu (Romania) and Paradjanov by Serge Avedikian and Olena Fetiseva (Armenia and Ukraine).
A retrospective on Istvan Szabo
This ninth edition will host the master of Hungarian cinematography, Istvan Szabo, who will occupy a place of honour. An invitation to travel to the East !
Other more specific sections such as the "Fokus" section, dedicated to Gypsy culture, the "Experiment" section dedicated to the precursors of optical synthesis, and the "Kluk" section for young audiences, will give us new insights into these countries of Central and Eastern Europe. We will travel to their changing contemporary societies, along the excitement of their avant-garde art and the magic of their children world.
Balkan nights !
During the festival, the nights will also have the flavour of the Balkans, in collaboration with the Association La Sauce Balkanique, a band will keep the festival goers dancing through the night.
