12th IDFF Jihlava 2008 – Day Two

On Saturday, the festival was already in full swing. In the grand hall of DKO, the festival day began by the screening of the competition film Royal Road of Cachaça by Pedro Urano, an imaginative journey through Brazilian history in the intoxicating colors of cachaço, alcohol made of sugar cane. In Czech Joy, director Martin Ryšavý presented his new film Malupien, Olšový Spas, a visit to the Siberian city of Yakutsk. The film director was also introduced as a writer at his reading in the Vinové Wine Bar; there he read an excerpt from his book Cesta na Sibiř / A Journey to Siberia. The second block of the Czechoslovak Army Film section focused on the 1960s (presenting films such as A Game for Men by Jan Schmidt or Reporter by Pavel Háša). On the second day of the Media and Documentary workshop, Between the Seas jury member, famous avant-garde film historian P. Adams Sitney was introduced as a speaker. Last but not least, Festival Identity, the meeting of representatives of significant documentary film festivals, was also held.

On Sunday, two films from the Wag the 9/11 Dog? section will be introduced: Loose Change: Second Edition by Dylan Avery and 9/11 Press for Truth by Ray Nowosielski. The Opus Bonum section will present the shocking Iraqi Short Films by Argentine director Maurio Andrizzi, an authentic collage of video footage filmed by members of all enemy parties in contemporary Iraq. Before another film from the world competition, the bitter examination of family life in the 1960s Must Read after My Death by Morgan Dews, versatile French photographer Eric Rondepierre, another author taking part in this year's Darkrooom, will introduce his works. Esteemed Hungarian filmmaker Péter Forgács gives a testimony on the history of Hungary in his film I Am von Höfler (Variation on Werther), a remarkable archive collage. The Festival Identity meeting will be concluded by a public panel discussion.

Successful Project sof EEF's First Day

During the opening pitch sessions on the first day of the East European Forum, the following three documentary projects generated the highest buzz among the attending commissioning editors: Czech Peace by Vít Klusák and Filip Remunda; Austria's Trains of Thoughts by Timo Novotny and Ulrich Gehmacher, and the French-Bosnian Village without Women by director Srdjan Sarenac and producer Estelle Robin-You. Of the 14 projects presented so far, several others received a promise regarding co-production or other form of financial support. The remaining 10 projects will be pitched Sunday from 10am.

Weekend is busy at East Silver Market

East Silver is the biggest database of Central and Eastern European documentary films. Comfortable digitized market offers 30 viewing booths, which have been busy for the whole day. Producers can meet important Buyers and discuss the possibilities to sell their films for foreign television broadcasting. On Sunday some of important buyers are available to the meetings at the market.
