EAST EUROPEAN FORUM – Nine projects selected for East European Forum

    Forum and Ex Oriente Film 3rd workshop - October 27 - 30, 2009
    East European Forum - public pitching session - October 31 - Nov 1, 2009

Out of 84 applications, the Institute of Documentary Film has selected nine documentary projects for the upcoming East European Forum. Czech documentary film will be represented by two projects. Karel Vachek's The Obscurantist and His Lineage explores the thin line between rationality and lunacy among UFO experts, dowsers and other mystery seekers; the Czech-Icelandic Iceland: A Bankrupt Nation portrays a country that used to rank among the richest in the world but now faces the economic crisis and disillusionment.

The selections also include Leaping Over the Dragon's Gate, a Finnish film capturing China's fascinating art scene and two Hungarian projects. The Glass Cage follows the story of two WWII heroes who were able to save tens of thousands of Jewish residents in Budapest. Gyula Nemes's Recycling identifies the cycle of consumption as the primary connection among people today.

At the East European Forum in Jihlava, the nine selected projects will join 14 projects developed by the participants of the year-long Ex Oriente Film workshop.
