Adis Đapo was still in high school when he heard about a filmmaking workshop organised by the film and TV production company SCCA/pro.ba and decided to join it. “I was intrigued,” he says, “and started hanging around them and soon I was invited to help out on different shoots. When I finished high school I was offered a part-time PA position, and 16 years later I'm still there.”
Since then, Đapo has worked on dozens of projects by SCCA/pro.ba and managed to accomplish enviable results. He was executive producer of Children of Sarajevo by Aida Begić (2012, Film House), which won the Special Distinction of the Jury in Un Certain Regards at the Cannes Film Festival and An Episode In The Life Of An Iron Picker by Danis Tanović (2013, SCCA/pro.ba), which won two Silver Bears at the Berlin Film Festival. He was associate producer of Death in Sarajevo by Danis Tanović (2016, SCCA/pro.ba), which won the Silver Bear and FIPRESCI Prize at this year's Berlin Film Festival.
When asked what kind of projects he is interested in pursuing, Đapo answers: “I wouldn't say there is certain 'kind' of films I would like to produce. It can be a comedy or a trashy zombie-flick. For me the most important aspect is to believe in the project and the talent behind it.”
At this moment he is concentrating on two projects: a new feature film project by Aida Begić, A Ballad, and Tabija by Igor Drljača, which received the Eurimages Co-production prize at Cine Link and which was presented at Cannes Atelier in 2014.
As the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its film industry in general is not certain, Đapo says he is not sure in what direction his career is headed, but he is sure about one thing: he “would definitely like to be able to produce more films.”
