The script was written by Vladimir Đurđević, Serbian playwright and screenwriter, and Davor Sučić, frontman of Zabranjeno pušenje and author of most of the songs used in the film.
Goodbye Cockroach! is a story of Pišonja and Žuga, two friends who decide to steal a public transportation bus and go to the seaside. It is a story about a generation and growing up before the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The film will be directed by Jasmin Duraković, whose second feature film Sevdah for Karim (2010) premiered in the Competition Programme of the 16th Sarajevo Film Festival, and Davor Sučić.
Because of limited public funds available for film production in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the producers decided to try an alternative fundraising strategy. The first scenes of the film were shot on 27 June 2015 and the material was used for a teaser. After that the producers started an Indiegogo campaign (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/balada-o-pisonji-i-zugi-start-up#/) and managed to secure their first sponsors.
The film received some public funding. It was supported by Film Fund Sarajevo with 153,387 EUR and by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre with 69,450 EUR.
The total budget planned for the film is 750,000 EUR. It will be co-produced by DEPO (BA), Media Aquistions (HR), Fokus (HR), Met Po Production (RS), Ars Media (SI) and Alba Film House (KV).
The shooting should start in August 2016 in Sarajevo and the premiere is set for 2017.
