The 2m EUR bitter comedy about the drastic post communist changes in ex-Yugoslavian Ljublijana, shown through a ten-year amnesia period of a factory worker, is an example for a successful cooperation between Balkan co-producers, supported by Eurimages (www.coe.int/t/dg4/eurimages/default_en.asp).
Coproducer Stefan Kitanov told FNE that the Bulgarian participation in the budget of the film, entirely shot in Slovenia, was 155 000 EUR. The music, composed by the talented Bulgarian actor/director/musician Stefan Valdobrev was recorded in Sofia with a symphony orchestra after a two-month work on the score. The picture postproduction was also made in Bulgaria.
According to director Andrej Košak, who graduated from the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana and whose 1997 debut Outsider turned into a national box office hit "the idea to shoot this film come some years ago while watching a TV reportage on the Labor Day celebration. It looked so pathetic that I asked myself how a real proletarian from the former regime, for whom the Tito red flags and the cult to work had a meaning, would react today?”
In Bulgaria The State of Shock was shown for the first time during the Sofia Film Fest in March 2012. It also opened the 2012 Golden Rose national film festival.
The Bulgarian distributer of the film is Art Fest (www.siff.bg).
