Commonly made by Austrian Dor Film (www.dor-film.com) and Bulgarian Camera (www.camera.bg) the film was supported with public money in both countries.
One of the hopes of the young Austrian cinema Anja Salomonowitz co-wrote the script of her first feature film Spain with the precious collaboration of Dimitré Dinev, a Vienna based writer with Bulgarian roots.
Salomonowitz, who studied at the Vienna Film Academy and at the Film and Television University Konrad Wolf in Potsdam-Babelsberg tells Sava’s immigration travel from Moldova to Spain. In stead of reaching the country of his dreams the foreigner stops in an Austrian village. There he starts working for a priest and meets Magdalena, who produces religious icons. According to the Bulgarian critics “the four interconnected stories, visually impressive, interpret themes, already seen in Wolfgang Becker’s 2003 “Good Bye, Lenin”. At the same time Spain touches the difficult theme of human traffic”.
The film was selected by the 2012 Berlinale (www.berlinale.de) Forum and took part in the official competition of the Ghent International Film Festival (www.filmfestival.be).
