The Jury chaired by film director Ivan Pavlov and director of the Bulgarian National Archive (www.bnf.bg/bg/film_library) gave the award in the name of the scriptwriter Vladislav Todorov, the first time director Emil Hristov and the performer of the lead role Rushen Vidinliev. The jury said that the film possessed “civic courage, power of satire and unity of idea and visual interpretation, showing the vulnerability of ordinary people in times of political terror and historical absurdity.”
The Paraffin Prince, written and directed by Pavel G. Vesnakov received the “Golden Rose” Grand Prix of the short film competition, because of its “realistic power and emotional punch, while showing the pain of a generation.”
The Special Prize of the Jury went to director and producer Peter Popzlatev for I Am You. Popzlatev was also announced as best director because of the “originality of the concept and the artistic finesse with which the film recounts the drama of an unusual personality in two historical ages.”
The best script award went to Dimitré Dinev and Anja Salomonowitz, who wrote the script of Spain, an Austrian-Bulgarian coproduction.
Best DoP was awarded to Krum Rodriguez for his work in The Color of the Chameleon.
The best actress award was shared by Zhanet Spasova and Irmena Chichikova, who performed the lead role at different ages in I Am You.
The best actor was given to Hristo Mutafchiev for his performance in Migration of the Belted Bonito.
Best debut went to Faith, Love and Whisky directed by Kristina Nikolova.
Special mentions for personal achievements were given to Boryana Semerdzhieva for costumes in I Am You andAlexander Etimov for editing Pistol, Briefcase And Three Stinking Barrels.
The Award the Union of the Bulgarian Film Makers (www.filmmakersbg.org) went to Kiril Staknov, director of July.
The Critics’s Guild Award went I Am You directed by Peter Popzlatev.
The Award of the accredited journalists went to The Color of the Chameleon directed by Emil Hristov.
Niki Iliev’s The Foreigner won the audience award.
