First presented on 16 February 2015 at the National Palace of Culture, the film was mainly shot in 2014 in over 40 locations and with a crew consisting of 250 members. The film glorifies the 19th century revolutionary Vassil Levski known for his struggle against the Ottoman rule and most of all for establishing secret revolutionary committees throughout the country.
The main backer of the film was Zlatina Filipova, a cosmetic doctor living in Dubai. She says that she founded the Amrita Art film company especially for the production of Dyakon Levski and that she invested nearly 800,000 EUR in the film, in which her own son is performing the role of Levski as a child.
