The 700,000 EUR film follows the path of the strong love of young Azad, а Kurd from Iraq, for his fiancée Vian in the period following his escape from his home country. Before reaching Germany, he travels by way of Bulgaria, where he has a forced stay.
The film, which Donchev co-wrote with Ali Talib based on a true story, was shot during the spring of 2014 in Bulgaria, Iraqi Kurdistan, Macedonia, Cyprus and Turkey. The languages spoken are Bulgarian, Kurdish, Arabic, English and German. Soran Enrahim, a Kurd from Iraqi Kurdistan, and Bulgarian actress Violeta Markovska perform the lead parts. The cast includes actors from Macedonia and Turkey.
Donchev said his aim is to show “the point of view of an open-minded young man from Kurdistan, Iraq, who wants to have a quiet life, to love and to be loved. Unfortunately, political passions do not allow this. The story covers several years on specific borderline areas between Europe and the Middle East (Iraqi Kurdistan, Lebanon, Cyprus, the Balkans), a region where violence and tolerance still ‘normally’ co-exist.”
Bulgarian producer Ivan Tovev, who also shot the film as DoP, told FNE that the date of the theatrical distribution has not been decided yet, but the plan is that it should follow the first screening of the film at an important international film festival. Bulgarian National Television has already acquired the broadcasting rights.
