The story written by Nikolay Volev follows the spiritual crisis of a once famous playwright Stefan. Aided by his soulmate Bisho, a battered off-road Jeep, he seeks inspiration in the breathtaking wilderness of Bulgaria’s mountains. Unexpectedly, Stefan finds refuge in a platonic relationship with a young Gypsy girl. The emotions between them start to accelerate.
„The idea came to me when I decided to leave my house on the Black Sea shore and to move to the mountains. Around the town of Bansko I found true, unearthly beautiful landscapes. To my delight this area is still extremely pure”, Volev told the Bulgarian media.
The film stars popular actors Anya Pencheva, Deyan Donkov, Kalin Sarmenov and the non-professional actor Saly Ibrahim.
Volev produced through Nikothea with the support of the Bulgarian National Film Center..
Shooting took place mainly in the foothills of the massive peak Todorka in the Pirin Mountains, in some gypsy neighborhoods and also in Sofia in August-September 2015. Because of the rocky terrains all the equipment had to be carried by hand.
The film had its premiere on 11 March 2017 in the frames of the 21st Sofia IFF. Domestic release is planned for the beginning of 2018.
Nikolay Volev directed several famous features such as The Double (1980), King for a Day (1984), Dangerous Charm (1984), Margarit and Margarita (1988), all of them produced by the ex-state owned Boyana Studios.
