Admissions to Domestic Films Dropped in Croatia

    ZAGREB: Admissions to domestic films dropped from 124,453 in 2014 to approximately 92,000 in 2015. The Croatian hit in 2015, The High Sun by Dalibor Matanić, had 42,815 admissions compared to the 2014 hit, Love and Death by Daniel Kušan which sold 39,849 tickets.

    According to Continental Film, The High Sun is followed in the 2015 charts by Life is a Trumpet by Antonio Nuić with 11,730 admissions, an impressive result considering that it opened on 3 December 2015. Ivona Juka’s debut feature You Carry Me comes third with 8,050 admissions. Ljiljan Vidić’s Baptism of Fire is also doing well, but it was released on 31 December 2015.

    According to the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, 11 feature films, five documentaries and eight minority coproductions hit  domestic screens in 2015. The 92,000 admissions number doesn’t include minority coproductions as the total results are not known yet. However, according to HAVC the most successful minority coproduction in Croatian cinemas in 2015 is the Serbian/Slovenian/Croatian coproduction We Will Be the World Champions / Bit ćemo prvaci svijeta by Darko Bajić (Intermedia Network, Perfo, Kinorama) with 5,662 admissions.

    The most watched Croatian film in the 21th century remains Vinko Bresan’s The Priest Children (2013, produced by Interfilm and distributed by Continental film) with 158,130 admissions.

    The High Sun / Zvizdan was produced by Kinorama in coproduction with Slovenia's Gustav film and in association with SEE Film Pro from Serbia. It was released by 2i Film on 24 September 2015 and was Croatia’s bid for the Oscars 2016. Life Is a Trumpet / Život je truba was produced by Croatia's Propeler Film, Serbia's Baš Čelik, Montenegro's Artikulacija production, Slovenia's Staragara and Croatian Radiotelevision.

    You Carry Me / Ti mene nosiš was produced by 4Film in coproduction with Slovenia's Vertigo and Serbia's Sloan Film Productions. Both Life Is a Trumpet and Baptism of Fire were released by Blitz film i video. Ljiljan Vidić’s Baptism of Fire/Narodni heroj Ljiljan Vidić directed by Ivan-Goran Vitez was produced by Inter Film in coproduction with Serbia’s Zillona film. Love and Death / Ljubav ili smrt was produced by Kinorama and distributed by 2ifilm.
