By

PRAGUE: The Czech Republic's venerated Barrandov Studios has announced a four-fifths decrease in net profit from last year but reports sales of 463 million CZK, up 11 percent, according to news agency ČTK.

The film studios, busy with international projects such as 1864 and Snowpiercer and series such as Missing and Borgia, reported net profits of 10 m CZK on its operations, some of the largest in Europe.

Board chairman Lech Kubik said higher studio occupancy were a key reason for figures he sees "very positively thanks to the bottom line and the interest of foreign companies in the Barrandov film studios," the agency reported.

Sales from film production rose by almost 153 percent to 141 m CZK last year, contributing one third to the total sales. Sales from production of foreign films quadrupled to 137 m CZK but sales from Czech films fell by nearly a half to 14 m CZK.
