"The Jeseník Mountains shape their inhabitants, and vice versa," Krobot told FNE. "The mountains are a reflection of the people who live there." That includes innkeeper Maruna, who is searching for a partner among the local men while dealing with the complications of her sister, mother and staff. A second plot involves the foresters Laďa and Balin, and their mutual partner, "Laďa’s old woman.”

"Their story does not have much of a happy end," Krobot said. "The movie takes place during the present in an authentic village environment that suffers from uncontrollable depopulation, making everything more complicated for our heroes. We would like to shoot an entertaining film with a novel sense of poetry and a captivating and contemporary storytelling form.

With few stationary dialogue scenes, Krobot said, Nowhere is inspired by "the poetics and subtle humor of Aki Kaurismäki or the Coen brothers, but also Czech interwar dramas, the work of the Mrštík brothers, or the poetics of 1960s theatre of the absurd." Nowhere, which won 115,000 EUR (3m CZK) from the Czech cinematography fund is budgeted at 800,000 EUR, co-produced by Czech Television and set to premiere in March via Eeap Film Distribution.
