The film is currently a favorite film at international film festivals. Since its Czech premiere on 22 August 2013, the film has been invited to numerous festivals, including both Toronto and Vancouver IFF, film festivals in Rochester (USA), Istanbul, Thessaloniki, South Korea, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Poland and recently Hong Kong IFF. The film is popular at home as well. The Czech distributor Falcon reports a total of 70,000 admissions.

Honeymoon is a continuation of the well-established cooperation of the author-director team Petr Jarchovský and Jan Hřebejk and the last part of their loose trilogy of stories from contemporary life. Together with their previous films Kawasaki's Rose and Innocence, the three films deal with the clash of past and present in distinctive styles and different genres.

The intimate story of Honeymoon takes place during one afternoon, night and following morning at a family cottage, where an uninvited guest disrupts a wedding celebration. Czech film star Aňa Geislerová, who cooperated with Hrebejk in three previous films, plays the role of the bride Tereza, who on her wedding day is confronted with an ugly homophobic episode in her new husband’s past, making the ethically questionable decision to overlook it. Appearing in other roles are Kristýna Fuitová, Stanislav Majer, Jiří Černý, Jiří Šesták and David Máj. The DOP is Martin Štrba, the recent winner of the Czech Lion for Burning Bush.

The film which had a budget of 26 m CZK (1 m EUR) is a Czech-Slovak coproduction produced by Fog’n’Desire Films, and coproduced by K Film plus, Czech TV and Sokol Kollár and supported by The Czech State Fund for the Support and Development of Czech Cinematography, Film Industry Support Programme, and the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, Spanish Latido Films handles international sales.
