Premium Film is a relative newcomer to handling feature films. The company expanded from its short film business only in 2011. It also recently acquired Bulgarian director Stephan Komandarev’s feature The Judgment produced by Argo Film. The Judgment is screening at the Cannes market.
The Way Out is Vaclav’s third feature film, and his first in 13 years. The Czech/French coproduction was produced by Moloko Film and Cinema Defacto.
The Way Out (Cesta Ven) is screening in Cannes in the ACID non-competitive section, the first Czech film to be shown at Cannes in 16 years. The film, which returns to the Roma theme of Vaclav’s debut film and Locarno Silver Leopard winner Marian, originated at Czech TV’s regional station in Ostrava, where most of the film was shot.
The film portrays the struggles of a young Roma woman trying to live a normal existence in North Bohemia.
