The 45 m CZK film will shoot for 58 days on 18 historic locations across the Czech Republic and employ a large cast including some 2,000 extras.
The film will be broadcast in July 2015, on the 600th anniversary of his death.
Czech TV director of development and creative producer for the project Jan Maxa said, “The 600th anniversary of the burning of Jan Hus is an extraordinary opportunity to bring a picture of this important personality of our history with moral strength and depth."
The TV film is directed by Jiri Svoboda. Vladimir Smutny is the DoP. The script was written by Eva Kanturkova.
"It will be additionally the very first feature film ever to use a new specially adapted camera suited to handheld shooting. ARRI AMIRA is an entirely new prototype of digital capture technology," said production manager Jaroslav Kucera.
The story will focus on Hus’ moral dilemmas as a church reformer and his decision to journey to a Catholic Church council where he was imprisoned, tried and burnt at the stake.
