The first film, Gangster Ka, also directed by Jan Pachl and produced by Adam Dvorak for Movie and coproduced by Czech TV, is holding on to the 17th spot after 12 weeks in distribution. Both films are distributed by Bioscop. Gangster Ka has a total of just under 21 m CZK in box office and over 146,000 admissions. Gangster Ka: African took in 5.3 m CZK in its opening weekend with 37,436 admissions. The release of part two also lifted box office and admissions for part one.
The films are based on a book by Jaroslav Kmenta about a Mafioso who gets rich through tax fraud in petroleum products and who tries to gain control of the state-owned petroleum company. When the man’s father is abducted and killed by a competing mafia group, he transforms into a murderer. The first film is set in the Czech Republic and the second follows his life of crime after his escape from the Czech Republic.
