PRAGUE: Xavier Giannoli‘s period drama Marguerite, which is a Czech coproduction and was shot entirely in the Czech Republic, received 11 nominations for the French national awards Césars, including Best Film and Best Director. The ceremony will take place on 26 February 2016.

Together with Arnauld Desplechin’s My Golden Days, Marguerite received most of the nominations. It was nominated for: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress (Catherine Frot), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Michel Fau and André Marcon), Best Original Screenplay, Best Costumes, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Sound.

Inspired by the real-life tale of Florence Foster Jenkins, the doomed soprano, Marguerite stars Catherine Frot as the wealthy socialite and aspiring singer Marguerite Dumont, queen of 1920’s French high society but owner of the worst sopano voice imaginable.

The film was produced by French Fidélité Films and coproduced by Belgium's Scope Pictures and Sirena Film - the line producer on the Czech side. The Czech production designer Martin Kurel is part of the main crew of the film.

Marguerite has been a hit in France, where it had more than 1 m admissions, and will be released by Picturehouse Entertainment in the UK on 18 March 2016.
