PRAGUE: The UK/Czech historical drama Interlude in Prague started filming in the Czech Republic this week. The story is based on Mozart’s visit to Prague in 1787 and focuses on the composing of his opera Don Giovanni.

The film stars James Purefoy, Aneurin Barnard and Samantha Barks. The cast includes Czech actors Klara Issova, Jiri Madl and Krystof Hadek.

Written by Brian Ashby and Helen Clare Cromarty and directed by John Stephenson, Interlude in Prague is produced by Huw Penallt Jones and Hannah Leader through Productive International along with the local production company Stillking Films. Michael Brewster is the DoP.

The 30-day shoot will take place mostly on historic locations including the castles of Libochovice, Ploskovice and Jemniště, the Doksany Monastery and Český Krumlov. The Baroque Theatre in Český Krumlov will double for the Nostic Theatre in Prague, where Mozart conducted Le nozze di Figaro in January 1787. Shooting will wrap on 13 May 2016.

According to the Czech Film Commission, the local spend of a cast and crew of more than 175 people is estimated at more than 7 m EUR.
