According to the Czech press agency CTK, the poll showed that only 15 percent of Czechs go to the cinema at least once a month and 6 percent at least twice a month, while 22 percent watch films on TV at home every day, 30 percent two to three times a week and 22 percent one film a week. Watching films on TV at home is preferred by women, while the cinema goers are more often men. Young people from 18 to 29 more often men, university graduates and inhabitants of big cities, are the primary Czech cinema goers, according to the poll.
Nevertheless, according to the data released by the Czech Union of Film Distributors, the cinema attendance in the first quarter of the year was the highest one in the past 15 years, reaching 3.9 million. The revenues in this period reached 509 m CZK (18.8 m EUR), which is a year on year increase of 13% both in attendance and box office. The most successful film in the first three months of 2016 in Czech cinemas was Filip Renč’s film about Lida Baarova, The Devil’s Mistress produced by NoGup, with the attendance of 390,000. In 2015 total cinema attendance reached 12.9 m, the highest since 2010.
