The Absence of Closeness / Absence blízkosti follows Hedvika, a single mother of a three-month old baby, who, instead of embracing the emotions of true parental love, feels distant and alienated. One night she finds the diaries of her prematurely deceased father and decides to try to suppress her “absence of closeness” towards the baby through her father’s diaries.
Principal photography started in the Karlovy Vary region at the beginning of August 2016 . „It is the most active seismic area in the country. Small earthquakes often take place there, especially between Karlovy Vary and Sokolov. These motifs are used in the film to amplify the feeling of psychological stress," explains the director.
The film stars Jana Plodková, who told the Czech media. "I'm quite glad that we are shooting now, when I do not have a family yet, because then it would hardly be possible for me to play this distant relationship to the baby“ .
The project participated in the MIDPOINT workshop in 2014 and one of its tutors, Milena Jelinek, took active part in the script development. Tuka, who did not succeed to get support from the State Cinematography Fund, didn´t want to wait any longer and decided to partly finance the film himself. Regional Karlovy Vary Film Office is also supporting.
The release is expected for summer 2017.
