Directed by Jiří Sádek and written by Michal Samir, the film is loosely inspired by a 19th century poem of the same name by the classic Czech poet K. J. Erben. Eliška and her daughter start a new life in a remote house with the “father away on business,” as the mother claims. After the lie is disclosed, their relationship begins to wither. At that time, the mythical Noonday Witch begins to materialise. As the witch draws closer and closer and the question is posed: is the danger real or is it all in the mother’s crumbling head?
The film was presented at the Karlovy Vary IFF and BFI London FF. It was released by Falcon in March 2016, reaching 63rd place at the annual box office and 17th place among domestic films, with 334,000 USD.
The Noon Witch was supported by the Czech Cinematography Fund.
