The film is a black-and-white existential drama based on true events, about a lesbian mass murderer who was the last woman executed in Czechoslovakia, in 1975.
I, Olga Hepnarova was very successful at home and abroad. It opened the Panorama section of Berlinale 2016, followed by invitations to 40 festivals around the world. The film received three awards of the Czech films critics, including the best directing award, and Michalina Olszańska won the Czech Lion for the best female leading role.
The film was produced by Black Balance and coproduced by Media Brigade, Alef Film and Media Group, Love.FRAME, Spoon, Barrandov Studios, Michael Samuelson Lighting Prague, FAMU and Arizona Productions.
Financial support was granted by the Polish Film Institute, the Czech State Cinematography Fund, the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and Odra Film..
International sales are handled by Arizona Films (France).
