Barrandov opens new multifunctional area

By

Barrandov Studios in Prague has opened a new multifunctional area that will expand the existing modern storage and production space available for film projects.

The area, measuring 480 square meters, was created by renovating a structure originally used for storing coal. Its conversion cost more than 4 million crowns (€145,000). The area can serve as a costume room, production workshop, or as storage space for props and lighting equipment.

Barrandov's shareholders decided on a sweeping investment plan a few years ago to prepare the studio for increasing competition from other Central and East European counterparts. Since 2005 more than 300 million crowns has been spent on new structures, modernization, reconstruction and repairs.

"Our goal was to further increase the quality of the services we offer and expand the supporting space available to crews and productions that shoot films and commercials at our studios," Vladimira Mejtska, a member of Barrandov Studios management, said in a statement..

The largest investment of the past few years - approximately 200 million crowns - was for the new MAX soundstage complex, which was opened last December.
