Recording the music took five eight-hour days, and 10 recording frequencies were required for the 80-member orchestra, said Juraj Durovic, Smecky Recording Studio's director, in a statement released by Barrandov. The animated megafilm will premiere in December.
The film is produced by Big Idea Inc., the creator of VeggieTales. Starz Media (formerly
DKP Productions and IDT Entertainment), is doing the computer animation.
The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures and is set for release on Jan. 11, 2008.
During the past several years, a number of recordings have been made at Smecky for films such as Lost Highway (directed by David Lynch), The Ninth Gate (directed by Roman Polanski), The Portrait of a Lady (directed by Jane Campion) and "Kolya" (directed by Jan Sverak).
The Smecky Recording Studio dates back to the 1940s. Its space capacity allows recordings to be made with an entire symphonic orchestra, including chorus. Its acoustical value and the technical expertise of the entire team are well regarded.
The Smecky Recording Studio, part of the Barrandov Studios complex in Prague, has wound up taping the music for the new animated megafilm The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything, the second feature-length film in the VeggieTales series.
