FNE at FINALE Plzen FF: Competition: Walking Too Fast

By

Radim Špaček returns to the absurdism of Communist life in the 1980's in his Finale Plzen competition film Walking Too Fast (Pouta), a Czech/Slovak/Polish coproduction.

The film is produced by Vratislav Šlajer for Bionaut Films (www.bionaut.cz) and distributed by Bontonfilm. The Czech/Polish/Slovak film is coproduced by Czech Television/Studio Ostrava (www.ceskatelevize.cz), ALEF Film and Media Group (www.afm.sk), and Pleograf (www.pleograf.pl), with UPP (www.upp.cz), Studio Gatteo (www.filmstudiogatteo.cz), and Sound Square (www.soundsquare.cz). The Czech state fund provided CZK 11.5 million in financial support. Šlajer said work on the film begam seven years ago, with intensive production over the past three years.

Špaček works with Czech DoP Jaromir Kacer, whom he first met when Špaček was a child actor appearing in Vojtech the Orphan, with Kacer as DoP and scriptwriter.

The film noir crime thriller stars a perfectly cast Ondrej Maly as a morally bruised secret police officer obsessed with a young woman, and a cast composed of largely unknown actors. The first script of writer Ondřej Štindl was inspired by a Martin Scorcese film, Casino.

Walking Too Fast premiered in the Czech Republic on February 4, 2010.
