The story is begins in 1969, shortly after the brutal end of the Prague Spring when the country was invaded by Russian tanks, and continues to the dark crackdown following the signing of Charter 77 by leading dissidents. The central characters are a mother and her two daughters and a revolving door of temporary "fathers," some of whom try to stand up to the pressures of the Soviet occupation of the Czech Republic.
Produced by Viktor Scwarz for Cineart TV Prague and coproduced by Czech Television (www.ceskatelevize.cz), the film received CZK 8 million in state support. It is distributed by Bontonfilm (www.bontonfilm.cz ) and was released in Czech cinemas on November 19, 2009.
Pavlásková's substantial directing credits include the 1989 film Cas sluhu (in English as Time of the Servants and Flunkey Time)which won a special mention at Cannes and the first prize at the Montreal film festival.
