Solomon Kane, an adventure-fantasy film by director Michael J. Bassett set in the 16th Century, is shooting at Barrandov Studios in Prague. The film is budgeted at more than $45 million, the Barrandov Studio company (www.barrandov.cz) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The international co-production of the US, UK, France and the Czech Republic is based on the novel by Robert E. Howard. The hero, played by James Purefoy, is a seafarer in Elizabethan England who battles pirates in a film that combines adventure with fantasy. The cast also includes Max von Sydow, Mackenzie Crook and Rachel Hurd-Wood as well as Czech actor Marek Vašut.

Barrandov Studio company provided not only the space and the studios, but also all the elaborate decorations and historical costumes for the production," said Vladimír Kuba, the company's general director. A historical marketplace was built in the studios for the shooting.

Solomon Kane will be shooting for several weeks in Prague, Kuba said.
