The film competed against the feature films Letters to an Angel and The Idiot as well as two other documentaries. The New World portrays an alternative citizens' initiative in post-Soviet Tallinn. The 88-minute film was produced by Jaak Klimi for Kuukulgur Film (www.Kuukulgur.ee).
{mosimage}TALLINN: A documentary film, The New World (Uus Maailm) directed by Jaan Tootsen, has won the best film of 2011 prize from the Estonian Association of Film Journalists.Estonian public broadcaster EFF quoted leading film critic Jaan Ruus saying of the film, "It shows there is a need for something natural and completely earnest, and 'Uus Maailm' is a quest for an alternative lifestyle. We need that kind of idealism."
